The Connaught Residence is situated on one the most architecturally cohesive and significant streets in Vancouver’s Shaughnessy neighbourhood. This large home of 8,300 square feet was required to sit comfortably in its surrounding environment. The majority of the homes in its periphery veer towards English Tudor styling. Rather than wholly appropriating elements from the neighbours in order to fit in, this home plays with Tudor motifs in ways differing from, but in harmony with them.
This is seen especially at the rear of the house, which faces a deep view across the treetops of the valley below and to the hills beyond. The rear facade opens up with vast expanses of doorways and windows to large covered decks and open terrace areas. Among other elements, a barrel vaulted high ceiling over the family room breaks out of the confines of period-perfect replication. The home, which is presently under construction, features everything the most discerning high-end home buyer could be seeking.
